Here we take a look underneath the rear-end of the Beetle with the gearbox in the foreground. Essentially, it was mounted on the forked-shaped ends of the central tunnel. The gearbox with the non- synchronised first gear can be recognised by the longitudinal division which surrounds the final drive. Later, the full-synchronised gearboxes had cross division.
